    Reimagining Fire TV Content Discovery

Innovating the future of Fire TV
The Fire TV IA redesign reimagines content discovery, enhancing navigation and scaling for emerging formats like shorts and AI-generated media.
As a UX designer, I led 4+ workstreams, defining system logic, object modeling, and interaction design. I drove rapid prototyping, usability testing, and worked with cross-functional teams to refine the user experience.
Since this project is ongoing, I’ll be focusing more on process rather than on final outcomes.

    Unlocking Fire TV's full potential
Many Fire TV users were unaware of the device's full range of capabilities, like podcasts, gaming, audiobooks, and music, using it solely for movies and TV.
This was due to a limited and unclear navigation menu, burying key features throughout the UI. Our redesign aimed to make these offerings more discoverable, ensuring users get the most out of their devices.
    Kicking things off
I kicked things off by making an object model of the entire system today, which was printed out and used to guide our ideation phase.
This phase consisted of a 3-day sprint, where we generated 12 rough concepts, followed by a 4-hour workshop with key stakeholders to review and refine the initial ideas.
    Design criteria
After analyzing current IA design challenges, understanding the technology, and incorporating insights from existing research, we defined the design criteria for Fire TV.
Overall, the redesign aimed to simplify the existing IA while providing users with a more personalized experience.
    Designing within tech stack limitations
One of the key challenges I tackled was defining the system logic to align with the new IA.
I worked closely with engineering to establish backstack behavior, state management, search functionality, and remote button mapping.
